Dreamy Brooklyn Wedding at The Boathouse in Prospect Park, New York
The Boathouse is a really beautiful venue especially for an artistic, painterly, and ceramic vibe. There are gorgeous white pillars with big windows casting light all throughout. With a balcony that overlooks the outdoor ceremony space - perfect for watching guests arrive from the getting ready space. Older style street lights that line that back entrance of the venue which is perfect for lighting cocktail hour and reception. The star of the venue in my opinion is the beautiful lake that looks like it could be straight from a painting, with swan swimming throughout and a stone bridge that really adds to the scenery.
When it’s sunny, the light hits the white building which acts as a reflector and makes for stunning lighting during outdoor cocktail hours. During ceremonies, people will gather on the bridge to watch and cheer during the recessional. On one side of the venue, there is a small park that people gather at and picnic. For dinner and reception, the space is beautifully set up alongside the windows overlooking the lake. And of course, the venue is in the middle of Prospect Park which is a dream in itself. With a Carousel, rollerskate / ice-skate rink, and lots of scenic spots all throughout.
THE DETAILS
This wedding in particular was a fav of mine. The couple really wanted to put themselves into the decor and have the marble, ceramic vibes of the venue compliment their day. They had a cake with lobsters holding claws on top of the Empire State Building, which is symbolic for them and the start of their relationship. They also created bird decorations to symbolize one of the earlier memories and green flag moments from the start of their relationship. One of my favorite things they did, was thrift postcards of New York from their favorite vintage shop and use them as a guest book. And for entertainment, they hired a magician during cocktail hour to go around and do tricks for their guests. It was honestly such a perfect day and I love how intentional they were with the decor and how symbolic it all was for them.
From a photography perspective, this wedding was so dreamy. They wanted documentary style photographs with film and vintage polaroids taken throughout. All of my collections include film service, so this gallery is a mix of film and digital.
FROM THE COUPLE
“We consider ourselves the luckiest couple in the world having had Jess as our wedding photographer. Almost two years before our wedding, I messaged her asking when he books for 2025 would open because we had fallen in love with her photography. She got back to me right away and I instantly knew her vibe was perfect for us.
Jess approached every aspect of our interactions with tenderness and care. From the unique brochure she made for us with our pets’ names as scope of work options to helping us find a coordinator and DJ that fit our needs and vibe; she made us feel that she was invested in making our day unique and special.
She was incredibly collaborative and attentive as we talked about what we wanted. She also is dedicated to experimentation, and trying out new things that make you go "woah! I can't believe that was me/my wedding day!" By the time the day came, I knew I could trust that she would provide photos with a unique voice that reflected us. On the day of our wedding, Jess had a cool, relaxed vibe that helped make us feel so at ease. There was no sense of rushing or anxiety, just joy and easy-going vibes. It was so easy to soak up every moment and still get gorgeous photography. This shows in all her work. I genuinely have never felt more beautiful while being photographed. You can feel the love in every photograph. Not just the love between my husband and I, but also the love of an artist for her craft. It’s truly something spectacular. The photos are something we will truly cherish forever and we can’t wait to get the opportunity to work with Jess again.”
