Halloween Costume Wedding at Whitby Castle

Last October I photographed a really unique wedding at Whitby Castle in New York. It instantly become one of my favorite venues to photograph at ever. And a castle for a Halloween wedding just feels perfect. I loved this wedding so much because of their bond which was so obvious during their vows. But also because of the small personal details that they put into their wedding day vision. The candles you see pictured below were made by them together by melting crayons. The two of them love watching horror together and I think it’s really cool when people are authentically themselves on their wedding day - whatever that looks like to them.

For these two, the fun of their day meant spending time with their friends and having almost no posed photos from their day. We seriously only spent a maximum of 30 minutes (if that!) doing posed photos total for the entire day. They opted to get candids of their loved ones vs allotting time to take a ton of formal photos. I also didn’t pull them away from their wedding day pretty much at all. I gave them as much space as they desired and they came to me when they wanted more posed photos. I left that up to them — as it should be! And reminded guests who wanted more formal photos that this was their day and it was up to them how they spend it. This was what they wanted, and let this be proof that you can do whatever you want on your wedding day. There truly is no right or wrong way to do any of this. As October gets closer I find that I will always look back at this wedding with a bit of nostalgia, because it was just so fun. This was the Saturday before Halloween and what a way for everyone to spend it — a next level Halloween party!

It was also an honor for this wedding to be featured in Rock N Roll Bride too! I am so excited over this. With the amount of love that I pour into the work I do, having an amazing day be recognized and a gallery loved by the couple, feels so rewarding. Check out the feature here.

Also, they asked their vendors to dress up, and I got to dress as Charmander :’)
